Chagiga Spectacular

Rambam held its Annual Chanukah Chagiga in what turned out to be a showcase for its innate talent.

It kicked off with intense dancing students with their Rabbeim to the music of our own Rabbi Boiangiu and the Rambam band. Simultaneously, students had the opportunity to make last minute purchases into the grand auction for prizes such as pizza for the grade, golfing with Mr. Kelly, autographed sports memorabilia, and more!

As the Chagiga progressed, the music was interrupted so the Harmonides, Rambam’s Acapella Group, could take center stage. The howls of applause following their singing are still ringing in our ears. Then, a short comedy film was shown to everyone. This film was directed by our own Stand-up Comedy Club and has since received over 500 hits on Youtube following its world premiere at the Chagiga. Special thanks to Shmuel Rosenthal, Noah Stochel, Dovid Sokolov, Jack Benzakein, Binyamin Wallin, Mr. J., Jonathan Randell and the rest of the Stand-up Comedy Club for their creativity.

Following that, the winners of the raffle were announced. A special thank you to Shlomo Ross, Zach Stern and the school’s Chesed Committee for running such a successful auction raising over $1,200 to tzedaka. Overall it was a great Chagiga and allowed an opportunity for everyone to have fun and recognize our in-house talent.

The Toy Drive

Some people receive gifts eight times on Chanukah, but less fortunate children from Chai Lifeline regularly do not receive any. Therefore, the Toy Drive donates toys to these ill children so they can be happy on Chanukah as well. People have contributed by giving toys and from donating money to the Drive Committee to buy toys for them. The Drive Committee had an incredibly successful haul in its 2nd annual Toy Drive this year.

Chanukah Fun with Rebbe

This past Wednesday, the boys in Rabbi Ziskind’s 9A shiur, along with Rabbi Muskat’s shiur basked in the spirit of Chanukah as they spent their morning at Woodmere Lanes. As a special Chanukah present, every Gemara shiur was treated to a day with their Rebbeim. After bowling a few games, the boys went out for lunch to cap off memorable day. Fun was had by all as Rambam threw a “strike” with this amazing event.

Chanukah Fun with Teacher

In 10A English class, students get into what they are learning, and don’t just learn literature: they live literature. As part of the Lord of the Flies Tribal Warfare Unit orchestrated by Mr. Goldman, and in honor of Chanukah, the class left Room 201 and went to the gym for a grueling “Ender’s Game Tournament” that combined, Basketball, Ultimate, Soccer and Hockey all into one intense period of survival. While most of the unit’s play has centered around academics and survival activities, the book deals with surviving on an island, so physical activity was inevitable.

All in all we had a great time!

Rambam Varsity Wins 2nd Annual College Bowl Challenge

This past Chanukah, the College Bowl team hosted various high schools for rendezvous in the dining room for an ultimate tournament: the 2nd Annual Rambam Mesivta College Bowl Challenge. After numerous questions from a plethora of topics: economics, European history, math, science, and English literature, the Varsity and JV teams emerged victorious. Varsity won 1st place trophy and JV won 2nd place trophy. Yasher Koach to all who participated.

The Emunah of JV Basketball

This year Rambam's Junior Varsity basketball team is participating in the Emunah/Rubenstein JV Basketball Tournament. Emunah operates 5 children’s residential homes caring for over 1,000 children coming from backgrounds of abuse, neglect and abandonment. This is the 4th Annual Rabbi Jacob and Deborah Rubenstein JV Basketball Tournament sponsored by Emunah. The tournament is designed to afford athletes and students of the participating schools to engage in chesed projects which will benefit Emunah's work at the renowned Bet Elazraki Children’s Home, in Netanya, Israel.

This tournament represents the ideal of chesed and athletic activity in an event designed to raise awareness of the work of Emunah for this wonderful cause, all in loving memory and for the benefit of the Rabbi Jacob and Deborah Rubenstein Memorial Fund. The team raised over $1,000 in sponsorships for the event. A special yasher koach goes to Jonah Zrihen, Jeremy Tabak, and Steve Howard for running a great “Hot Shots” competition to help raise over $1,000. It was a very well coordinated competition and everyone had a great time.
