Yom Yerushalayim at Rambam

Last Wednesday the 28th of Iyar, marked Yom Yerushalayim. At Rambam, Rabbi Yotav Eliach, Principal of the Mesivta, made the experience of capturing Yerushalayim and the Kotel come alive through a presentation. Using stories and historical facts, Rabbi Eliach allowed us to relive the momentous moment in Jewish History when the words, "Har HaBayit BeYadeinu" were proudly proclaim throughout the land. He spoke about the major and minor battles of The Six Day War and about the epic events, and the lesser known facts. From the trepidation of the days before the war to the incredible elation for the entire nation after the victory, he wove a tapestry of the then turbulent State's many national feelings. Students were also shown a video of the events of Yom Yerushalayim in 1967, as well as the impact the war's success had on Jewish identity and Israel's identity in the current climate. To hear Rabbi Eliach relate the evens of the day is to be given a master class in modern Israeli history and to feel transported back in time. He gives the day a sense of immediacy and relevancy that few can match. The students came out of the assembly with a new appreciation for the Kotel, as well as for the miracles of The Six Day War.

Rambam Rallies: Fire Falk!

This past Monday, Rambam students rallied in an effort to oust a notorious anti-Israel and anti-American UN Representative: Richard Falk. In response to the anti-American and anti-Israeli comments made by Richard Falk of the UN's Human Rights Council, the entire Mesivta, accompanied by Rebbeim and teachers, chanted "Falk Take A Walk" and "Fire Falk." Among Falk's many remarks include accusations that the recent Boston Marathon bombings were retribution for American Foreign Policy, as well as American use of drones in Afghanistan. He also recently proudly displayed a political cartoon depicting a dog wearing a yarmulke urinating on Lady Justice. Students rallied outside of the UN and held up signs designed by freshmen while chanting loudly in an effort to have Falk removed from his office. Rabbi Friedman and Mr. Goldman spoke about Falk's deplorable comments, and sophomore Jacob Friedman and freshman Evan Edelstein read letters of support from Congressmen condemning Falk. On hand were WPIX reporters and countless people stopped to take pictures of the protesters and offer gestures of support. At the conclusion of the rally, Rabbi Friedman thanked the NYPD and students chanted "G-d Bless America." A special thanks to Rabbi Friedman and the Rally Committee for coordinating this event.

JV Softball Splits Doubleheader With MAY

This past Friday, a quest for the playoffs occurred in an intense match in North Woodmere Park, as the Ravens took on the MAY Eagles in an exhilarating doubleheader. In the first game, MAY came out with a quick 2-1 lead entering the 3rd inning, but never scored after that. After a clutch triple by Aryeh Kahn which brought in Yosef Septimus, the game was tied! Jack Ross had back-to-back hits for Rambam, bringing in Aryeh Kahn to score. The Ravens obtained their lead and never gave it up. The final score of the first game was 3-2 Rambam. In the second game, the Ravens took a loss but concluded the season with a sterling 4-2 record.
